Rockland Residence
It’s not often that a client approaches a designer with an objective of doing something no one else has, something bold, something deserving of a rock star. Meade Design Group was engaged to do just that.
This primary suite was designed to embody a dramatic, glam, and eclectic new life for this very traditional heritage home by Samuel Maclure. Function was the first phase. A remodel of the wing was planned with modern lifestyles in mind, including a walkthrough closet and a large ensuite.
To encapsulate the young couple’s self-proclaimed “Goth” inspired style with an edge, a moody palette featuring varying shades of black with gold and mirrored accents was implemented throughout the primary bedroom and closet with Victorian-inspired motifs such as moiré and damask. Gold details and specially-placed lighting were added to highlight architectural details and prevent historical elements from blending into the relatively monochromatic space. To counterbalance, bright, white marbles were applied in the ensuite, and furniture in modern forms were carried throughout the space to bring the primary quarters back to a place befitting of a more fun-loving, youthful couple, while adding an interesting juxtaposition.
