Humboldt Street

The retiree clients behind this stunning condo project were looking for a way to blend their beautiful antiques and art with their new, downsized location featuring contemporary architecture.

Our first suggestion was the use of new, herringbone floors which seamlessly integrate the old and new elements within the space. Considerable millwork was designed to further enhance the idea that everything old and new can be connected and serve a purpose that works well for the clients and their lifestyles.

Boldly scaled patterns were paired with a soft blue colour palette to create an interesting juxtaposition that doesn’t overpower the space. Custom furnishings were implemented to make use of each square inch and optimize usability and comfort. In the end, the clients now feel very connected to their tailor-made forever home.

These newlywed clients purchased the penthouse in the downtown core which was brought to Meade Design Group as a blank slate. The space needed to reflect the youthful energy of the couple and the modern vibrancy of the downtown location while maintaining an air of sophistication and a reprieve from their busy lifestyle.

Contemporary, eclectic pieces were introduced in a bold yet classic neutral scheme with layering textures and pops of bright yellow. Sweeping organic, low forms encourage movement in the space and offset the rigidity of some of the building’s more industrial, rectilinear elements while enhancing the expansive views.

High ceilings were highlighted yet brought to human scale with the use of custom, modern lighting and suspended furnishings while the new fireplace millwork adds a romantic element for the couple to enjoy when they are ready to unwind from the hustle and bustle of downtown.

Rockland Residence

Rockland Residence

It’s not often that a client approaches a designer with an objective of doing something no one else has, something bold, something deserving of a rock star. Meade Design Group was engaged to do just that.

This primary suite was designed to embody a dramatic, glam, and eclectic new life for this very traditional heritage home by Samuel Maclure. Function was the first phase. A remodel of the wing was planned with modern lifestyles in mind, including a walkthrough closet and a large ensuite.

To encapsulate the young couple’s self-proclaimed “Goth” inspired style with an edge, a moody palette featuring varying shades of black with gold and mirrored accents was implemented throughout the primary bedroom and closet with Victorian-inspired motifs such as moiré and damask. Gold details and specially-placed lighting were added to highlight architectural details and prevent historical elements from blending into the relatively monochromatic space. To counterbalance, bright, white marbles were applied in the ensuite, and furniture in modern forms were carried throughout the space to bring the primary quarters back to a place befitting of a more fun-loving, youthful couple, while adding an interesting juxtaposition.

DUO Café

DUO Café

Meade Design Group is always elated to have an opportunity to involve our whole team in a project where we can combine our interior and graphic design disciplines into a cohesive concept.

Duo Café was no exception, and the Meade Design Group team was fully on-board with the directives from our clients at the Inn at Laurel Point: Eco-friendly, multi-purpose and respecting the work of Arthur Erickson (renowned architect behind the building) and the culture of the neighbourhood. Seeing the need for a local café they planned to offer some of the best pastries in the city and amazing coffee where patrons can choose to takeaway or meet with friends and enjoy the spectacular views.

The Meade Design Group team sought to re-use as many of the original elements as possible while modernizing, elevating and re-purposing this new venture for the hotel. Warm wood panelling and existing millwork was salvaged as much as possible and organic forms from eco-friendly materials hanging from the ceilings were introduced to add a new layer of interest in an unexpected place. New marble mosaic tile was installed which paired beautifully with the existing flooring while adding a Parisian flair as a nod to the delicious offerings found within. The colour palette and textural fabric mural were selected as an homage to local artist Emily Carr. A one-of-a-kind textile art installation is featured to complement the space while adding softness and dimension.

Ultimately, the project delivers an intimate and cozy retreat that is not only welcoming, but decidedly West Coast at its core – in both aesthetics and in mentality.

Maple Bay

Maple Bay

This seasonal home’s primary renovation objectives were to create a space that is accessible, lively, and welcoming. This was achieved by adding accessible washrooms, an elevator (with a fun, secret door to fulfil every grandchild’s dream!), a fresh and cheery palette and injections of personality throughout.

The stunning views were highlighted with new windows and doors, in addition to the upgraded, expansive deck that enables entertaining and al fresco dining. Each family member was given a specially tailored space of their own for their home away from home. Special attention was paid to new lighting systems, where ceiling features and murals are highlighted, and washroom mirrors provide the right light for every task – and at every angle. Much of the home’s original oak features were maintained to encourage the casual, warm ambiance, but the kitchen was brightened up with a soft, pale green.

Meade Design Group delivered a renovation that created just the experience these clients were looking for as they come together with their loved ones to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
